Do you know about Toastmasters clubs?
Toastmasters is a non-profit organization
that started in California in 1924. There are now clubs in 143 countries in the
world.
So what do we do in a club?
It is a place where you can improve your
public speaking and communication skills.
It varies from club to club, but at
Richmond Friendly, members deliver prepared speeches in the first half session.
The second half is a Table Topic Session,
where the host member gives topics and the members make impromptu speeches of
around two minutes on the topics.
Both the first and second halves are
surprisingly difficult to do, and I manage to do them every time while breaking
out in a cold sweat.
So why are you doing such a hard thing
while paying CLUB fees?
Strong communication skills are powerful at
work and in the communities you belong to.
Because it leads to our own growth and
performance at work.
In a club, there are no teachers or
students, and everyone is on an equal footing. We grow through friendly competition
with each other.
